I’m sure you all recognize this leading lady of the the 1950’s movie scene. This is Audrey Hepburn, a British actress and humanitarian that many girls, including me look up to. There is something about the time period ladies like Audrey came from that fascinates me. If I had a time machine and could go back to any point in time, it would definitely be the 1940s-1950s. There is just a certain elegance and confidence in the style of the time.
Audrey’s style was very “off-duty princess.” Even though to some, she was a princess all of the time. She kept it simple, and made popular one of the most important peices of fashion today - the little black dress and pearls. Her clothes were very structured and formal, yet fun. She was a fashion icon of her time, such as Blake Lively today. Her looks were so timeless she is still a style icon today and her looks inspire the trends we see today. In the picture above, look at her necklace, I just bought one similar to that. She sported high-waisted skirts and outfit-making belts like we do today. The trends of today are more of an edgy version of her wardrobe. That is another reason of why I love her time period, clothes were so simplistic yet still made a statement.
I am not the only one who wants to be like Audrey, Marilyn, and more. A lot of girls are interested in all things retro, as am I. A lot of people are scavenging around thrift stores, looking for the right piece of retro couture to carry it’s charm into today’s world. There are many people looking for polaroid cameras, and other film cameras alike. I own an holga 120n, but I don’t know how to use it very well =/. Anyone care to help?
Maybe it’s a bit of nostalgia, or maybe we’re looking for some inspiration, but the styles of the leading ladies of the past will always leave it’s mark on society today.
